Date: 23rd January
Occasion: Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
Today, we celebrate the birth anniversary of
one of India’s greatest freedom fighters, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a
man whose name evokes a sense of pride, patriotism, and sacrifice in every
Indian's heart. Born on 23rd January 1897 in Cuttack, Odisha, Subhas
Chandra Bose’s life was a testament to unwavering dedication to India’s freedom
and relentless courage in the face of adversity.
A Visionary
Leader
Netaji’s approach to India’s struggle for
independence was distinct and revolutionary. While many freedom fighters
advocated non-violence, Bose believed that liberty could only be won through
active resistance. His famous slogan, “Give me blood, and I will give you
freedom,” reflects his determination to inspire action among Indians.
He was a man of exceptional intellect and
charisma. A graduate of the prestigious Presidency College in Kolkata and later
the University of Cambridge, Bose also excelled in the Indian Civil Services
(ICS) examination. However, he chose to resign from the ICS, citing his desire
to serve his motherland instead of the British Empire—a decision that defined
his path as a revolutionary leader.
The Indian
National Army (INA)
One of Bose’s most notable contributions to
the independence movement was the formation of the Indian National Army
(INA), also known as the Azad Hind Fauj. Under his leadership, the
INA became a symbol of unity and resistance, comprising men and women from
diverse regions and religions.
Bose’s efforts to align with nations like
Japan and Germany during World War II, although controversial, demonstrated his
single-minded focus on achieving India’s freedom at any cost. His battle cry of
“Chalo Dilli” united Indians across boundaries, instilling a sense of
purpose and hope.
A Legacy
That Inspires
Netaji’s mysterious disappearance in 1945
remains a topic of intrigue and speculation, but his legacy is eternal. He
continues to inspire millions with his vision of an independent, self-reliant,
and united India. His teachings encourage us to rise above our differences and
work collectively toward national progress.
As educators and learners, we must revisit his
ideals and values. Bose’s belief in the power of youth, discipline, and
education as the backbone of a strong nation resonates deeply today.
